What say you Oppo? Worth considering or worthless? That left coast Bavarian Unimog for 10k was also north Maine woods-compatible...

From what I understand, they're fun and genuinely capable off-road, but aren't the most reliable thing in the world. Some are put off by that, and some take the side of the road tinkering as part of the pre-war charm.

I’ve read that they’re capable, but it’s rather heavy and an incredibly lossy drivetrain for such an old engine design. I believe they make a better engine now (fuel injection, etc), but finding a dealer is tough. The place I bought my scooter from was a Ural certified dealer.... for one month. They don’t offer factory financing, and essentially make them to order, so dealers have very little option of what (double sized, so half as many fit in your shop!) bikes they can keep in stock, and not always the attractive ones (since those ones actually sell).

(the guy that really wanted the bike ended up flaking when they couldn’t get the bike he wanted in stock before he paid for it, and they weren’t going to front that kind of cash. They dropped the relationship when he flaked.)

I want north woods bulletproof, and I’m ok tearing things apart on the side of the road. I’m also ok with old designs- known flaws in an old system can be easier to manage than unknown flaws in new systems.

That’s a dangerous proportion for 15 grand. I better leave.

I just proposed that I trade my Elantra GT for one. I could DD a 2WD in the snow with proper gear and good tires. Right? RIGHT?

HELP ME OUT HERE PEOPLE

My wife told me to go back downstairs and work on the motorcycle project I have. :-(

No thanks. I’d rather slide the rear tire.

You gotta really, really, really want an Ural... and Putin gets $27 from every purchase.

For a bike with real heritage and real ‘classic design’, nothing beats it.

Harley-Davidson talks about heritage, but compared to an Ural, it has as much heritage as the plastic access card I use for work.

Of course when I say it has ‘real heritage’, it’s a nice way of saying the design is genuinely old... and there are downsides to that.

For example, the performance, fuel economy and handling are all crap compared to any bike with modern design.

And if you want something that is bulletproof? Then buy a Honda.

Old bikes or new-old bikes like the Ural are inferior just about every way compared to modern Japanese bikes.
